Cement Mason / Concrete Finisher

Concrete Finishing is a designated trade in Alberta and is also a Red Seal trade. Apprenticeship technical training is only available through the Prairie Trowel Trades Institute (PTTI) in Edmonton.

The term of apprenticeship for a Concrete Finisher is three years (three 12-month periods) including:

  • A minimum of 1,200 hours of on-the-job training and four weeks of classroom instruction in the first and second years.
  • 1,200 hours of on-the-job training in the third year.

Apprentices must have a sponsor; the sponsor can be an employer or your union. Contact the Local to learn more about sponsorship by the union.

PTTI’s Concrete Finishing Programs are recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training as equivalent training to the first-period and second-period apprenticeship technical training under Section 6(2) of the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act.
