Prioritize Safety with Local 222 Training
Safety Training Certification
If you are a Local 222 member, the following list of courses/costs are reimbursable through the Training fund.
Reimbursement for any other courses not listed will require approval by the committee.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Members working in Saskatchewan
Those members working in Saskatchewan are now required to have a ticket/card from the Construction Opportunities Development Council Inc. (CODC) for a course called “Rights & Responsibilities (R&R).”
The course is done online via the internet
takes approximately 4 hours to complete
and a confirmation letter can be printed.

STANDARD SAFETY TRAINING requirements
To Gain access to any industrial construction site in Alberta, every member is required to have the fallowing set of standard safety training certification in their possessions.
Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) No expiry – except members are required to have the version 9 upgrade
Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) Regional Orientation (no expiry)
OSSA BSO
OSSA Fall Protection (harness training) expires every 3 years
Rights & Responsibilities (R&R) – for members working in Saskatchewan ONLY, expires every 5 years
SPECIALTY SAFETY COURSES
Contractor Initiated courses – Members only
Based on a particular job need, our Contractors may request our members get additional training.
The Contractor must request one of these courses in order for the Training Fund to cover the cost.
Man Lift / Aerial Platform – Card expires every 3 years
H2S Alive – Card expires every 3 years

So keep your Safety Cards up-to-date: check the expiry dates on your cards
Get re-certified BEFORE your card expires

CSTS – Construction Safety Training System (version 9)
Is an online course through the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA)
Training is done individually and takes on average 6-7 hours to complete

After Verification from the dispatch department the training centre will then send a link for the CSTS training through the email address provided.
CSTS will not be reimbursable from third party providers

OSSA Regional Orientation
OSSA - Basic Safety Orientation (BSO)
For BSO training details & training providers, contract the training centre
All initial costs for obtaining the BSO will be the members responsibility
Reimbursement eligibility, once the BSO credential is obtained the member must complete an additional 500 hundred hours of work in the field and provide a valid copy of both the receipt and the certification card for reimbursement!
OSSA Fall Protection (Harness Training)
Expiry’s every three years
Fallprotection Training must be authorized through the training centre
Fallprotection Training without authorization, limits the reimbursement to $50.00
Fallprotection for members who live other than the Edmonton Area and cannot attend the Fallprotection locally for these reasons, limits the reimbursement too $150.00

OSSA Regional Orientation (no Expiry)
Note Changes, As of July 1, 2015, an in the seat 4 hour Basic Safety Orientation for ,ALL NEW workers who intend to work at OSSA member work sites must, at a minimum, have the new Basic Safety Orientation (BSO). This new orientation will replace the OSSA Regional Orientation (ORO) and Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) courses as a pre-site access requirement at participating member work sites. The new BSO course is currently being introduced in locations across Canada. ORO training is no longer available. Please check with your employer to determine if any other OSSA training is required.
PLEASE NOTE: This training requirement applies only to NEW workers. If you already have proof of ORO and CSTS certification, you will continue to have site access
