These online courses are designed to strengthen technical skills, improve workplace success, support career advancement, and build leadership capacity.

Course Catalogue

Math for Tradespeople

3–6 hours

Access tutorial videos, animations, practice quizzes and step-by-step instructions to help you build a solid core of math skills. These skills will translate into your ability to use equipment and materials properly, keep you and your crew safe and advance in your trade.

1–2 hours

Build upon your core math skills by learning the Question Strategy for Numeracy. Using this strategy will help you build confidence, efficiency and accuracy when tackling any type of math problem that you face on the job or during apprentice qualification exams.

2–5 hours

Get simple tutorials on topics that are often challenging for apprentices in your trade. Resources include practice questions, worksheets and step-by-step video tutorial breakdowns.

1–2 hours

Learn reading strategies used by tradespeople to help them navigate and understand workplace documents. Using these strategies will help you build efficiency and accuracy when tackling any type of reading problem on the job or during qualification exams.

1–3 hours

Build your knowledge of the science principles that underpin much of the work done in the construction trades. Learn the most applicable of these concepts: properties of matter, thermal expansion, magnetism and electricity.

1–4 hours

Identify your strengths and areas for improvement, as well as appropriate support resources. Complete and receive instant feedback from three separate diagnostic tests in Math Foundations, Math Applications and Reading & Document Use.

Red Seal Test Prep

2 hours

Earning a Red Seal endorsement shows you meet the national standard of competency in your trade. This course prepares you with an overview of the exam, study strategies, test-taking techniques and tips that can improve your chances of passing.

If you struggle in exam situations, test anxiety may be a factor. Learn to recognize the symptoms, uncover the causes and build strategies to reduce its effects so that you can focus on test success.

2-4 hours

Recognize the tools required to work in more diverse teams, explore concepts that advance your communication skills, and learn strategies that contribute to a workplace culture of respect and inclusion.

2-4 hours

Develop the knowledge and skills to be comfortable making decisions about your own financial well-being. Learn to avoid the common financial pitfalls of people working in the construction trades by building on your four pillars of financial health.

1 hour

Learn about the importance of good mental health, common mental health challenges, as well as strategies for building mental health awareness and supporting those around you who are struggling with poor mental health.

2 hours

Increase your awareness of climate change and its connection to the construction industry. Find out what workers in the building trades are doing to reduce the impact of their work on the climate and protect the communities they live and work in.

3-4 hours

Prepare to work effectively with Indigenous populations within the context of the building trades. You’ll build the knowledge and skills required to participate in reconciliation and contribute to supportive work environments for Indigenous tradespeople.

Introduction to Mentorship

1-2 hours

Identify the skills required to develop effective mentoring relationships with a focus on communication skills that you can apply immediately on the job with measurable results.

3-3.5 hours

Determine the readiness of pre-apprentices and apprentices for entry into and success in an apprenticeship. Each trade-specific assessment is aligned to the cognitive profiles of the trade. Participating training providers receive a full skills profile breakdown for each test taker.

3-4 hours

Prepare to work effectively with Indigenous populations within the context of the building trades. You’ll build the knowledge and skills required to participate in reconciliation and lead supportive work environments for Indigenous tradespeople

3-4 hours

Develop knowledge, tools and strategies to meet the needs of today’s changing workforce and learn how employers and workplace leaders play a key role in ensuring that the future of the construction industry has the tools to build a better tomorrow.

1-2 hours

Gain the foundational knowledge to start and run a construction business in Canada, including an understanding of self-employment and strategies for recognizing and improving key construction business processes.

1-3 hours

Learn what learning differences are, how they affect learning in technical training and how you can support your apprentices to succeed.

Exploring the Trades

1-2 hours

Learn the ins and outs of different skilled construction trades, including day-in-the-life responsibilities and video interviews with trades professionals.

30 min

Get an introduction to Building Trades unions, learn about the benefits of membership and recognize steps to connect with or join a union.

2-3 hours

Develop a foundational knowledge of the construction process from conception to final handover. Understand key roles, responsibilities and terminology at each project stage and recognize the importance of communication across the entire project team.
